The Bowie High varsity baseball team opened the season on the road and defeated the Laurel Spartans, 13-4.

Starting pitcher Robby Munnelly and reliever Jordan Maslanik tossed well from the mound, and if the weather holds up Friday, it looks as though Maslanik would get the start in one of the Bulldogs' two games Friday at home against DuVal. The games ~ weather permitting ~ are slated to begin at noon and 3 p.m.

And for Pete's sake, I would be remiss if I did not mention that the Bulldogs' win against Laurel just happened to be the 300th career coaching win for Bob Estes. In over 30 years of coaching, splitting his time between DuVal and Bowie, Estes has proven to be a winner on and off the field. His milestone shows just how strong the baseball leadership has been for Bowie over the years. Estes's predecessor Bill Seibert retired with 321 career coaching wins. (It might be 322 --- no need to write letters!)

NOTES: The BHS Lady Bulldogs' softball team defeated Laurel, 23-1, Wednesday.
