U.S. Naval Academy Oath of Office 2009
After pushing through the first stages of Induction Day, plebes gathered outside Bancroft Hall for the Oath of Office. After the oath, plebes and their families met briefly before the harrowing six-week Plebe Summer began. Among those who met with parents was Matt Disher, a local plebe with a family history deeply rooted in the Naval Academy.

U.S. Naval Academy Induction Day 2009
Wednesday, July 1 marked day one of Plebe Summer for the Class of 2013 at the U.S. Naval Academy. Induction day began at 6 a.m. at Alumni Hall where the new midshipmen sign in, go through medical examinations, have their hair cut, recieve standard issue gear, and learn the proper way to salute.

Coast Guard rescues 5 in Chesapeake Bay
The Coast Guard rescued five people who were stranded on a disabled boat in the Chesapeake Bay yesterday afternoon, officials said. An adult operating a 26-foot boat near Gibson Island reported to the Coast Guard over marine-band radio that his engine was on fire at about 2:05 p.m. The Coast Guard found the boat and rescued an adult and four children at 2:38 p.m., while firefighters from the Riviera Beach Volunteer Fire Company boarded the boat to make sure the fire was out. The boat was towed to a nearby marina and no one was injured, officials said.
