Electronic gadgets top lists for thieves

Police warning residents to keep devices out of sight

While overall thefts in Anne Arundel County decreased last year, police said GPS units, hand-held video games, MP3 players and other electronic gadgets remain at the top of the shopping list for thieves.

Data recently collected by the FBI show theft of video game systems, like the hand-held Nintendo DS, increased 285 percent nationwide over the past three years.

The theft of digital cameras, computers and other consumer electronics commonly given as holiday gifts also has risen in the past three years, the data show.
