Each year, the Pasadena Sportfishing Group hosts kids' fishing derbies at each of the peninsula's parks for kids who were born with reel in hand to those who have never fished before. The Downs Memorial Park derby is up next and will be held from 8 to 11:30 a.m. July 11.

The cost is $ 3 in advance or $5 for all walk-ins on the day of the derby. Registration will close promptly at 9 a.m. They will provide fishing equipment and bait to those who need it.

There are two age groups ages 5 to 8 and 9 to 13. Each group will be awarded prizes for the three largest fish caught.
