Just as they have for the past 17 years, residents of Pumphrey will gather Aug. 15 to celebrate their tight-knit community on Belle Grove Road as part of Pumphrey Day.

This year's motto of "We love where we live" couldn't be more appropriate, and it shows in the planning of Pumphrey Day and the attachment residents feel, several said. Many attendees have moved away several years ago, but they always return for the celebration, said Toni Bowie, co-chairwoman of the Pumphrey Day Committee.

"It's a chance to see people you haven't seen in years," she said.
