FLY ASH - Was anyone surprised by the Maryland Department of the Environment decision to "tentatively" approve the permits for a fly ash landfill in Curtis Bay? It was pretty clear from the beginning that the agency never considered this a tough choice. The site, located just across the Baltimore City line off Hawkins Point Road, is owned by a company that makes paint pigments. Wastes from those processes are stored on an adjacent landfill. We all use electricity. Fly ash is a byproduct of the coal fired generators at Brandon Shores and Wagner Point. Constellation Energy has to find a place to dump the ash, and a...
