Brooklyn man gets 30 years for murder

Hearing focuses on criminal records of defendant and victim

A Brooklyn drug dealer with a long criminal record was sentenced Monday to 30 years in prison for the fatal shooting of a father of two last year in Annapolis.

That was the maximum sentence Deonte Desmund Boyd, 25, could receive for the second-degree murder of Michael Lee Thompson Sr. under a plea agreement with the state.

"God is good," said Ga'Juanah Holland-Thompson, Thompson's wife and the mother of one of his children. She hoped the sentence would bring closure.

"It's sad that it had to go down this way," said Charlene Boyd, Boyd's aunt, after members of the two families hugged...
