Supporters of an arts district in Brooklyn Park have withdrawn their application for tax breaks and other incentives, saying state officials suggested more work is needed on the idea. Ned Carey, county school board member and a leader of the arts district committee, said officials with the Maryland State Arts Council advised the group to make the application stronger and resubmit it. He didn't know what the state's specific concerns were, but said the response surprised him.
