Fatal accident may have been a suicide

An alcoholic homeless man who was run over and killed Tuesday night in Glen Burnie may have laid down in the road on purpose, an advocate for the homeless who knew him said this week.

Donald Barr, 46, was killed around 9:15 p.m. at the intersection of Crain Highway and 6th Avenue after an Ocean City man driving a van filled with his family members ran over him, county police said.

"He was in a desperate situation," said Philip Bailey, program director for resource and day center at Arundel House of Hope. "He wanted out of the lifestyle but was just unable to stop drinking."
