| Hispanic students face language barrier challenges

Five Hispanic students, all-foreign born, sat around a table inside Old Mill High School recently, sharing stories of what it was like during their first few days in school. There is the normal awkwardness and sometimes signals get crossed. When Kenia Zavala arrived from El Salvador recently she immediately looked for someone who could speak Spanish. "If you come here and you don't speak English you don't feel comfortable," Zavala said. Zavala found Eduardo Villa. But he rebuffed her early attempts to speak to him.
