Man charged with attempted arson

GLEN BURNIE - A man was charged Monday morning with trying to set a Ritchie Highway tavern on fire, county police said.

Police were called to the 7300 block of Ritchie Highway at about 5:40 a.m. for reports of a suspicious man, said Justin Mulcahy, a county police spokesman.

While patrolling the area, police saw a man walk up to the Crossroads Tavern at 7354 Ritchie Highway with a red gasoline container. Police said the man propped the gasoline container against the front doors of the tavern and lit a wick that was protruding from the top.
