Ferndale volunteers fill void left when county pulled firefighters to trim budget

A year after the county Fire Department officials pulled 'round the clock career firefighters from the Ferndale station, there are no plans to replace them in the first six months of 2010, department officials said.

Although the move in January was motivated by the need to cut back on overtime, department officials said the Ferndale Volunteer Fire Co. has shown it can staff the station almost on its own.
