Fly ash landfill moves aheadHAWKINS POINT - The Maryland Department of the Environment has approved the stormwater discharge permit necessary for construction of a fly-ash landfill just over the Baltimore City line. The state has yet to issue the permit that would allow coal combustion byproducts, also known as fly ash, to be dumped at the site. MDE is expected to make a decision on that permit this spring, following a series of public hearings.
