State closes Millersville assisted living facility

The state has shut down a Millersville assisted living center after inspectors discovered six residents suffering from serious neglect, one of whom later died.

A copy of the inspection report obtained by the Maryland Gazette shows suffering too awful to contemplate. Inspectors found residents covered in dirt and skin sores. Some were starving, dehydrated or plagued with infections.

State and industry officials point to the case of Millersville Home Care as proof there is a need for tougher regulation of assisted living facilities.
