The business district surrounding BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport is absolutely crammed with hotels, more than 50 are within a 10-mile radius.

But as the lodging industry has grown, so has a new trend: extended stay hotels. Driven in part by growth projections at Fort George G. Meade, at least a dozen already thrive near BWI and more are on the way.

"We believe demand will increase in this area as evidenced by the BRAC expansion and the BWI terminal expansion," said Michelle Emley, general manager of Townplace Suites.
