| County seeking law to tax Meade project

Concerned that a massive new commercial development at Fort George G. Meade won't have to pay property taxes or impact fees, county leaders are seeking a change in state law so the developer can be taxed like other projects. "Why should the entire tax burden fall on some of the users and not all?" County Executive John R. Leopold asked. Mr. Leopold and other state and county officials met Tuesday to discuss the impact of the sprawling, 2.5-million-square-foot office project with a small retail component to be built on 540 acres.
