| Narrow house fails by wide margin

The county Appeals Board has said no to another skinny house in Brooklyn Park. The board ruled 5-1 Wednesday that real estate agent Shawn McCarthy cannot build an 18-foot-wide home on Seward Avenue. Mr. McCarthy was seeking a variance so he could build on the 25-foot lot. County zoning laws require homes to be set at least seven feet back from neighboring property lines. Earlier this year, Mr. McCarthy applied for and received variances for side yard setbacks of three and a half feet.
