| School choice rolling into Anne Arundel

When Teresa Tapp's son reached eighth grade last year, she had a decision to make. She could enroll him in their local school - North County High School - or in one of the specialized magnet programs offered in other county schools. Finally, the family chose the International Baccalaureate Programme at Meade High School, where Ms. Tapp said her son is doing well in difficult classes. "It was a tough decision" because there were so many choices, she said. County schools are growing the slate of magnet programs. Now, families like the Tapps have their pick of nine programs.
