Donations stolen

A church lost more than $5,000 when a thief stole a black briefcase Saturday from a truck parked at the Rock Creek Diner at 8539 Fort Smallwood Road, county police said.

The briefcase contained $400 in cash and $5,000 in personal checks made out to New Hope Community Church in Baltimore. The case was taken while the owner was eating inside the restaurant.

Police found the rear windshield of the truck was broken, police said.
