| Guest column: Being a Christian means taking off the training wheels

The late comedian George Carlin once said, "I think everyone should treat one another in a Christian manner. I will not, however, be responsible for the consequences." My immediate response was laughter. My second was sadness, even anger. How many atrocities have been done in the name of Jesus, a man who preached peace and love? My third response was hope. What if Christians truly embraced and lived out the teachings of Jesus? The "consequences" would be amazing: all people would be treated justly and respectfully, and Christians would be humble and loving, following the example of Christ. Can you imagine what we...
