Severna Parkscientist honored Peter Bergstrom, a federal biologist from Severna Park who devotes countless hours to the Chesapeake Bay cleanup effort, recently was awarded a top honor by the state. Bergstrom was given the Bernie Fowler Award for his work toward restoring the Chesapeake Bay. The honor is named for retired state Sen. Bernie Fowler, who pioneered the spring ritual of “wade-ins,” where people wear white sneakers and wade into the water to test clarity. The award, dubbed the “white sneaker award,” is given each year to a member of one of the state’s tributary teams. The tributary teams advise the government... This story has expired!
