Political notes: Crabbers get their say on freezing inactive licenses

More than 150 crabbers filed into the Earleigh Heights fire hall Thursday night to weigh in on state plans to reduce the number of inactive watermen, with many bristling at the idea.

Riviera Beach crabbers Steven Sass and his son, Dan, said more attention should be paid to recreational crabbers.

One day while working on Pasadena's Stoney Creek, Steven counted 22 recreational crabbers. While recreational crabbers have low limits on how many crabs they can catch, the number can add up quickly, he said.

About 4,000 people are licensed...
