| Proposal: Keep killing invasive mute swans

A special state mute swan committee is recommending wildlife officials keep killing the picturesque but invasive birds. In a report sent this month to Department of Natural Resources Secretary John R. Griffin, the Mute Swan Advisory Committee said the state should keep ruining swan eggs and killing adult birds to get the population as low as possible - and possibly eliminating the swans altogether. The report comes despite the objections of animal-rights activists who said they think the mute-swan population is small enough already.
