The Joan Lauffer Breast Cancer Scholarship Fund will award up to $1,000 to a college-bound high school senior who has, or had, a parent with breast cancer. Students who wish to apply for this scholarship should attend public or private school in the county and will be asked to write an essay, one to three pages in length, explaining how cancer has affected their family, and how this scholarship will help with their future. The deadline for receiving essays is May 31.
Applicants should e-mail essays to w.lauffer@verizon.net with their name, age and phone number, where they attend high school, the college or university they are hoping to attend and the prospective major or area of interest. The scholarship money will be paid directly to the winning student's school.
The scholarship will help with books and expenses at a time when the parent may not be able to work because of her or his illness. For more information, call William Lauffer at 410-956-0791 or e-mail w.lauffer@verizon.net.
