Sunday is Mother's Day. Tell us about your mother. What makes her special?
---
My Mom's passing was in 1986, it still seems like it was yesterday. She raised five of us kids and was always there when we came home from school. She knew how to run a household and do what needed to be done to make our house a home.
Mom didn't live without her own baggage of emotional issues, which affected her personally and how she handled relationships with her children. Growing up; I never heard "I love you," I never received any hugs or any expressions of love from Mom. My childhood to me was filled with stress, fear, emptiness and anxiety.
Then Mom was diagnosed with lung cancer. From the time of the diagnosis, she lived for five months. The last week of her life in the hospital, she requested that I come and be with her. I stayed there, only leaving her bedside to take bathroom breaks.
The day before she died, I felt her hand touch mine. I cried, as I heard her say, "Nan, I love you."
What makes my Mom so special? She came to a point in her life, even though it was at the end, where she realized that she hadn't given me what I needed growing up.
So, on that day, before her spirit left her body, and being in great pain, and almost breathing her last breath; she did the most special thing she could have ever done. She told me she loved me. Growing up, those were words I desperately wanted to hear from her. Mom will always hold a very special place in my heart.
So happy Mother's Day, Mom! I love you!

My mother is amazing! She is the most caring person I know. She puts everyone, including strangers first, often sacrificing herself.
I'm 24 years old and she still offers to help me with school work, and personal life. She wants the best for me and my family. She is always there to talk to, even when I'm not the most pleasant person. She is loved by everyone she meets and has positively touched the lives of many cheerleaders. She helped athletes get into colleges and earn scholarships.
I love her, our family loves her, and so does everyone who meets her! Thanks, Mom.

My mother was unfortunately stricken with MS many years ago. Although the disease has robbed her of her mobility, it was no match for her spirit and optimism.
Her positive attitude really puts things in perspective. Sometimes, what people don't say, tells you a lot about them. Through the years, I have never once heard my mother say, "Why me?"
She's an inspiration, not only for her family, but for anyone that meets her. We love you, Mom. Have a great Mother's Day!

What my special Mom means to me is she was always there for me. She always listened to my problems and offered solutions; always there when I was sick, sad or angry at the world; always ready to help when I was short minded, short funded, and well, just plain short!
Always ready with a joke or to laugh at mine; and most importantly, always there to show love and support when I needed it. Sadly, Mom is gone now - she passed just after Mother's Day 2007. Mom, I know you're up there looking down. Happy Mother's Day.
