Southern pitchers combine on five-inning no-hitter
Senior pitcher Dylan Porter pitched and hit his way to a win as his Cougars eliminated the visiting Bruins in the 4A East regionals, winning 5-3.
Along with two RBIs from his bat, Porter allowed just three runs, scattering nine hits while striking out five. Sophomore Josh Grimes led the offensive attack for the Cougars, going 3-3 with two RBIs.
Chesapeake, which beat the Falcons in an early-season matchup, advances to play at Severna Park today in the 4A East semifinals.
SOUTHERN 15, CENTRAL 1: Senior B.J. Hines and freshman Ryan Gambril combined to no-hit Central, as Southern advanced to today's 2A South Region quarterfinals with a 15-1 win.
Hines pitched the first three innings, striking out five and walking two. Gambrils pitched the next two innings, striking out every batter he faced.
Junior Kevin Walker was 3-for-4 with two RBIs, and junior Robbie Woods was 2-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI for the Bulldogs, who face second-seeded Gwynn Park today.
SOUTH RIVER 6, OLD MILL 3: Seniors Brandon Ring and Jacob Harkey baoth had two hits, including a double each, with Harkey driving in two runs and Ring plating one as the sixth-seeded Seahawks overcame a three-run deficit to defeat the third-seeded Patriots in a Class 4A East Region quarterfinal matchup.
South River (14-7) will play the winner of today's Chesapeake-Severna Park game in a semifinal contest at 5 p.m. tomorrow.
Junior Bobby Hite and sophomore Kevin Loftis added doubles as the Seahawks scored four in the fourth to take the lead for good. Junior Eric Aumann went the distance, yielding five hits and two walks while striking out seven.
Senior Matt Wade, who had two hits, and sophomore D.J. Smith each had a double for Old Mill, which finished at 15-7. Senior Brady Feigl pitched six innings and suffered the loss. He allowed all seven hits and three walks and struck out eight.

THOMAS STONE 2, GLEN BURNIE 1: Senior Tony Iorio had a pair of doubles, which were half of the Gophers' hits, as the ninth seed fell to the sixth-seeded Lions in a Class 4A East Region tilt.
Thomas Stone will play top-seeded Arundel at 4 p.m. today in a quarterfinal matchup.
Junior Tim Coulbourn drove in the lone run for Glen Burnie (4-16). Senior Junior Kruemmel yielded five hits in taking the loss, allowing a run in the bottom of the sixth to break a 1-1 deadlock.
ANNAPOLIS 10, ABERDEEN 7: Junior Zach Spencer was 4-for-5 with two RBIs and three stolen bases to lead his Panthers over the hosting Eagles.
Junior Andrew Sanchez picked up his seventh win of the season, scattering 13 hits and striking out seven.
Annapolis managed to break open a 4-4 tie with a six-run seventh inning, holding the Eagles to just three in the bottom half of the inning to advance in the 3A East regional tournament.
The Panthers await the result of the Fallston-Wilde Lake matchup. If Fallston wins, the Panthers will travel, and if Wilde Lake wins, the Panthers will host the Wildcats. Annapolis will play tomorrow.

RESERVOIR 3, MEADE 2: Senior Rob Jennings had two hits and an RBI, but the Mustangs fell in the 3A first-round contest.
Meade fell behind 3-0, but rallied for two runs in the sixth inning to pull within one run.
Reservoir's Chris Ludke pitched seven innings, struck out five batters and only walked one Mustang.
"Their pitcher was on his game," Meade coach Darryl Evans said. "We just couldn't capitalize when we got a couple of runners on. You tip your had to them. They did well."
