Saturday Girls Lacrosse: Glanell, Dorsey pace South River victory

South River got hat tricks from Alana Glanell and Devin Dorsey to blow past Chopticon, 17-4, in the 4A-3A East girls lacrosse quarterfinals.
Ten players scored for South River (14-2), which took a 13-1 lead into the second half.

"We started off really well," Seahawks coach Julie Norton said.

Stephanie Peterson paced the offense with two goals and five assists. Fourteen of the Seahawks' 17 goals were assisted. Mechelle Curtis and Kasey Acito each scored twice, and goalkeeper Kim Kolarik wasn't challenged in the first half. Backup keeper Sarah Wheat made three saves.

South River (14-2) 13 4 - 17

BROADNECK 20, CHESAPEAKE 5: Karri-Ellen Johnson scored seven goals to lead the Bruins past the Cougars in the 4A-3A East quarterfinals.

Johnson dished off a pair of assists to finish with nine points. Chelsea Thompson ended with eight points (three goals, five assists), and Megan Eshleman collected five (four goals, one assist).

Shannon Hanratty scored a hat trick for Broadneck.

SEVERNA PARK 25, ARUNDEL 5: The unbeaten Falcons (16-0) rolled over Wildcats (11-5) in the Class 4A-3A East quarterfinals as Jaci Gassaway paced the winners with five goals.

Kathleen Barranco socred four goals and Sam Ferrell and Katie Cloud each netted three for Severna Park. Allison Behringer and Julie Gardner each tossed in a pair of scores.

Aimee Rodiguez scored three times for Arundel and Kristen Jaschnegg and Hayley Ross each added a score.

PATUXENT 16, NORTHEAST 7: Lindsey Saunders scored four goals, but the Panthers' offense clicked early to end the Eagles' season in the 3A-2A East quarterfinals.

ANNAPOLIS 25, NORTHERN 4: Ali Brandenburg scored five goals and Maddie McKaig, Liz Melesh, Erin Shackleford and Jody Cumberpatch notched hat tricks to push the Panthers into the 3A-2A East semifinals.

Annapolis scored 16 goals in the first half and cruised to the victory.
